Complete Top 25 Rankings

San Diego State track and field is ranked No. 25 in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Preseason Team Rankings, the association announced today.

The Aztecs, who are vying to earn their fifth top 25 finish over the last six seasons, are the only ranked Mountain West team in the preseason list. Oregon tops the field after winning the 2016 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championship last fall before winning the program's seventh indoor title in eight years a few weeks ago.

This is the first time since 2013 that SDSU has appeared in the preseason top 25, when the Aztecs were ranked No. 15 to open the year.

The National Team Computer Rankings by the USTFCCCA are compiled by a mathematical formula based on national descending order lists. The purpose and methodology of the rankings is to create an index that showcases the teams that have the best potential of achieving the top spots in the national team race. Rankings points do not equate with NCAA Championships team points.

San Diego State recently finished the indoor season ranked in a four-way tie for 21st. The team is coming off of a busy day at the Ross and Sharon Irwin Collegiate Invitational and the UC Irvine Spring Break Collegiate Classic, securing five individual event titles and tying the seventh-best mark in SDSU history with a win in the 4x100 relay in Irvine.

Up next for the Scarlet and Black is the 39th annual Aztec Invitational at the AzTrack at SDSU Sports Deck this weekend. All high school and invitational events, as well as the distance carnival for the open, invitational and high school meets, will take place at SDSU., while the open and invitational throwing events will be held at UC San Diego on Fri., March 24 and Sat., March 25.
