SAN DIEGO - San Diego State will try to even its weekend series against UNLV when the teams meet this afternoon at 1:00 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
With last night's 5-3 win over the Aztecs, the Rebels improved to 10-9 overall and 5-2 in Mountain West action. Their win, coupled with Fresno State's loss at Air Force, moved them into sole possession of second place in the conference standings.
UNLV is expected to send right-hander Larry Quaney (1-0, 1.57) to the mound to start this afternoon's contest.
He will be opposed by SDSU senior left-hander Dominic Purpura (3-0, 3.80).
Outfielder Tyler Adkison continues to lead SDU with a .469 batting average and his four home runs lead the club. He is also second on the squad in RBI with 12 despite having only 32 at bats on the year.
After last night's three-hit effort against UNLV, third baseman Andre Brown upped his season batting mark to .350. The senior from Chula Vista is the top RBI man on the team with 14 and also leads in hits with 28 while his six doubles rank second.
UNLV and San Diego State will conclude their three-game weekend series on Sunday (March 19) with a contest scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
