SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team is set to participate in the Hornet Invitational, hosted by Sacramento State, this weekend on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif., where they will face Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, Loyola Marymount and Drexel University.
SDSU will race four boats in this weekend’s duals, including a first, second and third varsity eight, as well as a varsity four. The Aztecs will first race Sacramento State on Saturday, March 18, followed by Saint Mary’s that afternoon, and are set to face Loyola Marymount and Drexel on Sunday, March 19. Race events are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. each day.
Last weekend, the Aztecs raced in their first event of the spring season in Marina Del Rey, Calif., where they finished third in three varsity eights and a varsity four behind Stanford and UCLA.
The Hornets also hosted a season-opening Sacramento State Invitational last weekend, where they placed first in three of their five races, including the varsity eight, second varsity eight and varsity four.
The Saint Mary’s Gaels also opened the season in the Sacramento State Invitational last weekend, finishing second behind the hornets in the varsity eight and second varsity eight races, and notched a third place finish in the varsity four.
Both LMU and Drexel will open their seasons this weekend at the Hornet invitational. The Lions scrimmaged the UCLA Bruins in both the fall and spring, and participated in the Newport Chase race last November. The dragons had a packed fall schedule, participating in several regattas in the Northeast.
Following this weekend’s duals, San Diego State returns to Mission Bay for the San Diego Crew Classic on April 1-2, with races set to begin at 7:30 a.m.
