<>WHAT'S ON TAP THIS WEEKEND IN AZTEC BASEBALL
Following Tuesday night's win at the University of San Diego, the SDSU baseball team resumes league play when it hosts a three-game series against UNLV this weekend. The opening game of that set is scheduled for Friday, March 17, at 6:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium. The Aztecs and Rebels will meet up for games on Saturday (March 18) and Sunday (March 19) at 1:00 p.m. PT each day.
<>AZTECS ON THE AIR
Friday's contest vs. UNLV may be heard on KCR Radio, the campus station of SDSU, with links to the broadcast available at the Aztec web site (GoAztecs.com). Saturday and Sunday's games will be broadcast on 1700 AM Radio in San Diego. In addition, Saturday's contest will have live video streaming on the Mountain West Network. All of these links will also be on the SDSU web site.
<>SERIES RECORD
The Aztecs have a record of 82-58 against UNLV in a series that began in 1978. SDSU has had the upper hand against the Rebels in recent years including winning two of three from them during the 2016 regular season along with a victory at the Mountain West Tournament. The Aztecs have won nine of their last 12 contests against UNLV. The Aztecs are 39-19 at home, 40-34 away and 3-5 at neutral sites against the Rebels.
<>ADKISON HAS BIG WEEK
Outfielder Tyler Adkison followed up last week's impressive string of games by going 3-for-4 in the win at USD on Tuesday (March 14) with a home run, RBI and two runs scored. In four games last week, Adkison hit .538 (7-for-13) with six RBI and three runs scored. In Saturday's (March 11) game vs. Nevada in Reno, he went 4-for-4 with a double, two home runs and five RBI. The last time an Aztec had two homers in a game was when Adkison hit a pair at Air Force on March 20, 2016. Over last week's four contests, Adkison had a 1.077 slugging percentage along with a .625 on-base mark.
<>TREJO COMING ON
Second baseman Alan Trejo led off the contest at USD on Tuesday with a home run on the first pitch of the game. It was the first time SDSU opened the game with a homer by the leadoff batter since Justin Wylie did it last season at Cal State Fullerton (March 15). Trejo is currently on an eight-game hitting streak during which he has gone 14-for-37 (.378) with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBI and eight runs scored. He has homered in each of SDSU's last two contests.
<>BROWN HEATS UP
Third baseman Andrew Brown has hit safely in eight of SDSU's last 10 contests, going 16-for-45 (.356) with three doubles, a home run, eight RBI and seven runs scored. He had a personal season-best seven-game hitting streak end in the series finale vs. Cal Poly on March 5. During that streak he batted .355 (11-for-31) with two doubles, a home run, six RBI and five runs scored. Brown leads the squad with 25 hits and 13 RBI. He is tied for the team lead in doubles with six.
<>VERDON GOES DEEP
First baseman Jordan Verdon had three hits including a home run in the win at USD on Tuesday (March 14). The sophomore has five career home runs as an Aztec with two of those coming at USD's Fowler Park. Verdon had a nine-game hitting streak, the longest by an Aztec this season, come to an end in the series finale vs. Cal Poly on March 5. During that streak he went 13-for-37 (.351) with a double, two triples, five RBI and six runs scored.
<>ERICKSON PROVIDES RELIEF
Junior left-hander Jacob Erickson has been impressive out of the bullpen this season. In his last six appearances covering 11.0 innings, he has allowed no runs on six hits with a walk and five strikeouts. In the process, he has lowered his earned run average to 1.72. He has picked up a pair of wins this season (at Long Beach State Feb. 28 and at San Diego March 14).
<>PITCHING DOMINATES
Over the past nine games, the SDSU pitching staff has posted a 7-2 record with a 1.91 earned run average. Opponents hit .241 over those nine contests. Included in that run is a pair of shutout victories and two one-run wins. The Aztecs recorded only one shutout during the 2016 season.
<>EARLY SCORING
In 14 of SDSU's 17 contests this season, there have been runs scored in the opening inning. When the opponent scores in the first, SDSU has a record of 2-4. When they score in the opening frame, the Aztecs are 7-0. When both teams score in the first, SDSU's record is 1-0.
<>STREAKS
Alan Trejo has the current longest hitting streak for the Aztecs at eight games. Hunter Stratton's five-game streak in the second-longest current hitting streak on the team. Two Aztecs have reached base safely (via hit, walk or hit by pitch) in the past eight games including Trejo and Tyler Adkison. Andrew Brown has recorded a team-leading nine multiple-hit contests with Jordan Verdon leading the team with four multiple-RBI games.

After opening the season with a 3-4 record, San Diego State is 8-2 in its last 10 contests … The Aztecs are 10-0 when leading after six or seven innings, and 11-0 when leading after eight … SDSU has committed 12 errors in its first 17 contests for a .982 fielding percentage. The team record for fielding percentage in a season is .978 set during the 2013 campaign … In his most recent two starts vs. Cal Poly and Nevada, Brett Seeburger allowed just two runs over 13 innings for a 1.38 earned run average … Logan Boyer has allowed no runs on just two hits and nine strikeouts over his last six relief appearances (8.1 innings) … Junior Jorge Fernandez has made two starts and five relief appearances this season and has yet to allow a run in his 14.1 innings pitched … Aztec pinch hitters are batting .211 (4-for-19) with one hit each by Tyler Adkison, Chase Calabuig, Julian Escobedo and Hunter Stratton. Opponent pinch hitters have a .048 average (1-for-21).
