SAN DIEGO - San Diego State scored five times in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back in a 10-4 win over Siena Tuesday night at SDSU Softball Stadium. The Aztecs improved to 4-4 with the victory, while the Saints dropped to 0-6.

SDSU continued its hot offensive start with 14 hits, including a season-high six doubles. Through eight games, San Diego State is batting .361 as a team with three players hitting above .500 and another two with at least a .400 average.

The Aztecs scored five times in the first on five hits and two walks.

SDSU added a run in the second on a double by Frankie Orlando (Roseville, Calif.) that scored Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.).

Siena got on the scoreboard in the third on a sacrifice fly and scored again in the fifth on a single to make it a 6-2 game.

San Diego State made it 7-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Shelby Thompson (Benicia, Calif.) drew a one-out, four-pitch walk and scored on a double to left-center field by Jaylene Ignacio (Oceanside, Calif./El Camino HS).

Loryn DeFalco led off the sixth with a solo home run for the Saints to make it a four-run game once again.

The Aztecs tacked on three more runs in the sixth as Katie Byrd (Santee, Calif./West Hills HS), Peres and Molly Sturdivant (Santa Ana, Calif.) had consecutive doubles to get things going, Sturdivant's scoring both Byrd and Peres. Aris Metcalfe (Compton, Calif.) replaced Sturdivant at second, moved to third on a wild pitch and, after a strikeout, scored on an Orlando single up the middle. SDSU was unable to get the extra run across the plate to complete the run-rule victory, however, giving Siena one more chance.

The Saints took advantage of a San Diego State throwing error in the seventh, which allowed Brooke Taylor to score on a groundout by Paige Hess. After a walk, Aztec relief pitcher Marissa Moreno (Torrance, Calif.) got DeFalco to ground out to Thompson at shortstop to secure the 10-4 SDSU win.

Orlando and Sturdivant led the way with three hits apiece. Orlando was 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, while Sturdivant was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run.

Thompson was a perfect 2-for-2 with an RBI, run and a walk, while Ignacio (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2B) and Peres (2-for-4, RBI, 2 R, 2B) also added two hits.

Byrd doubled, walked and scored two runs, Taylor Stewart (Bellflower, Calif.) scored a run and drew two walks, and Kiera Wright (Riverside, Calif.) singled, scored a run and tied a career high with two stolen bases.

San Diego State used a group effort in the circle. Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) started and got the win after allowing one run on four hits over four innings, striking out two to improve to 2-1 on the season. Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) gave up two runs on four hits and a walk over two innings of relief, striking out two. Moreno yielded one unearned run on two walks in the final inning.

The Aztecs head to the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., this weekend playing Oklahoma State (6 p.m. PT) and No. 1/1 Florida State (8:30 p.m. PT) on Friday, Stanford at 5:30 p.m. PT Saturday, and New Mexico State (9 a.m. PT) and No. 17/17 Utah (11:30 a.m. PT) on Sunday.
