IRVINE, Calif. - The San Diego State Aztec baseball team will makes its first road trip of the new season when it visits UC Irvine this evening for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Anteater Ballpark.

This past weekend the Anteaters (1-1) spilt a pair of contests at home against Minnesota after Friday's series opener was rained out.

UCI is expected to start freshman right-hander Cole Spear on the mound this evening. Spear tossed three shutout innings in the season opener, allowing two hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

Right fielder Adam Alcantara was the Anteaters' leading hitter over the weekend, going 5-for-8 (.625) with a double, triple and three RBI. Catcher Alex Guenette was 3-for-6 (.500) with a double and two runs scored.

The Aztecs (2-1), meanwhile, opened their 2017 campaign by taking two of three from Pacific.

SDSU will send senior lefty Marcus Reyes (0-0) to the mound to start tonight's contest. Reyes pitched two innings of relief in Saturday's loss to UOP, allowing no runs on a pair of hits.

The Aztecs' top hitter over the weekend was senior Andrew Martinez, who played the past three seasons at UC Irvine. He went 6-for-11 (.545) with two doubles, a home run and four RBI. Catcher Dean Nevarez hit .571 (4-for-7) over the three contests with an RBI and three runs scored.

Following tonight's game, SDSU will be in action tomorrow night (Wednesday, Feb. 22) when it visits Cal State Fullerton for a 5:00 p.m. game at the Titans' Goodwin field.
