SAN DIEGO - San Diego State and Pacific will wrap up their three-game season-opening series this afternoon with a contest scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. PT at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The teams split the first two game of the weekend with the Aztecs capturing the opener, 11-5, and the Tigers taking the second contest, 5-1.
SDSU will send senior left-hander Dominic Purpura (4-2, 3.25) to the mound to start this afternoon's game while UOP's starter has yet to be determined.
After two games, senior designated hitter Andrew Martinez leads the Aztecs with a.571 average. He has gone 4-for-7 with two doubles and a RBI.
Teammate Alan Trejo has also collected four hits (.444) with an RBI while Danny Sheehan leads the squad in RBI with three followed by Jordan Verdon with two.
Both the hitting and pitching have looked promising as SDSU is batting .309 over its first two contests with a 3.50 team earned run average.
Following today's game, San Diego State will head north for a contest at UC Irvine on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 6:00 p.m. at Anteater Ballpark.
