PALOS VERDES ESTATES, Calif. -- The San Diego State women's golf team completed its first tournament of the spring on Tuesday with an eighth-place tie at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge after shooting a collective 10-over-par 284 during the final round at Palos Verdes Golf Club. Facing a strong field that included 11 top-30 schools in the latest Golfstat rankings, the No. 32 Aztecs finished in the same position where they started the day, posting a 54-hole total of 27-over 879, along with No. 25 Arizona.

SDSU was once again led by Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah), who jumped one spot on the individual leaderboard into a four-way tie for seventh at even-par 213 after carding a final-round 71 on the par-71, 6,017-yard layout. The Aztec senior played steady golf throughout the day, offsetting two bogeys with a pair of birdies en route to her 13th top-10 collegiate placement.

With her result, Blair finished four shots behind tri-champions Leona Maguire of Duke, Mackenzie Raim of UNLV and Taylor Tomlinson of Florida, each of whom completed the event at 4-under 209, while another Florida golfer Kelly Grassel was one shot behind at 3-under, followed by Haley Moore of Arizona and Lauren Stephenson of Alabama, who tied for fifth at 1-under.

SDSU also received a modest gain from junior Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.), who jumped two places into a tie for 31st at 4-under 220, while fellow classmate Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.) moved up one spot into a tie for 39th with a combined 9-over 222.

Krause opened with 11 straight pars before experiencing back-to-back bogeys on holes 3-4. The native Oregonian quickly regrouped with three additional pars and a birdie at No. 6, but another bogey at No. 9 saddled her with a final-round 73, preventing a steeper climb.

Lacey, meanwhile, found birdies elusive on Tuesday, settling for 15 pars to help ease the sting of three bogeys en route to a 74.

Elsewhere, newcomer Fernanda Escauriza (Asuncion, Paraguay) completed her first tournament in a Scarlet and Black uniform at 12-over 225, tying for the 55th on the heels of a final-round 76. After making birdie at No. 13, the Aztec freshman endured a stretch of six bogeys over her next eight holes, but finished strong with six consecutive pars.

Rounding out the Aztec delegation was junior Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay), who tied for 84th at 27-over 240 after carding an 83 on Tuesday.

No. 14 Arizona State was the lone school to shoot collectively below par for the final round, recording a 2-under 282. However, the Sun Devils (+5) finished one shot behind No. 2 USC (+4) for the team title, while No. 22 Duke (+7) was a close third, followed by No. 6 Florida (+8) and No. 3 Alabama (+15).

San Diego State will have nearly two weeks off from competition before returning to the fairways for the Bruin Wave Invitational, Feb. 27-28, at San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
