SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women’s tennis will face a duo of matches this weekend, beginning with a home dual against Cal State Fullerton on Saturday and a visit to UC Irvine Sunday. SDSU will face the Titans Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center and the Anteaters on Sunday in Irvine, Calif., with first serve set for noon.
The Titans come to the Mesa after starting their season with back-to-back wins against Nevada, 5-2, and UC San Diego, 7-0. SDSU last faced CSUF at the 2016 ITA Southwest Regionals in October, splitting two singles matches. The Aztecs last faced the Titans in dual match play last season, falling to Fullerton, 5-2.
UC Irvine started its season with losses in its first two matches against Mississippi, 7-0, and Grand Canyon, 4-3. The Anteaters also saw the Aztecs in the fall at both ITA Southwest Regionals and SDSU’s Fall Classic II. The teams last competed in a dual Feb. 18, 2016, where the Aztecs came out on top at home, 6-1.
The Aztecs are fresh off their first victory of the regular season after defeating UC San Diego last weekend, 4-3. SDSU was also scheduled to face UC Riverside last weekend, but the match was postponed due to weather.
Following this weekend’s events, San Diego State will face No. 18 USC in Los Angeles Wednesday, Feb. 1, and then return to San Diego for home matchups over the weekend against Cal Poly and No. 8 California.
