NEWS AND NOTES (through Jan. 21)
* Coming off its second and final bye of the conference season, San Diego State returns to action on Tuesday with a road game at Air Force. Game time is set for 7 p.m. MT (6 p.m. PT) with coverage available on ESPN3 and The Mighty 1090.

* San Diego State is tied with Fresno State and New Mexico for the longest active win streak in the MW, having won three straight games. The Aztecs went into its game on Jan. 14 alone in 11th place and is now just one game back in the loss column from the conference leaders.

* SDSU is second in the Mountain West in point differential in league games (+4.3).

* The Aztecs, who lead the Mountain West in league games in both scoring defense (64.2) and field-goal percentage defense (39.6 percent), have held three straight opponents to 38.0-percent field-goal percentage or less. SDSU has won 14 straight games when limiting the opposition to 38.0 percent or less from the floor.

* San Diego State has won three straight Mountain West games, all by double figures, for the first time since Feb. 6-13, 2007.

* During its current three-game winning streak, SDSU has outscored its opposition, 214-167 (+47 points), allowing just 55.7 points per game and limiting the opposition to 37.2-percent field-goal shooting and 26.5-percent three-point field-goal shooting.

* Last time out, SDSU ran its win streak over UNLV to nine games (the longest by any team in the nation in at least 21 seasons) with a 64-51 victory at Thomas & Mack Center. Trey Kell had a season-high 24 points and tallied 16 of the team's final 20 points.

* San Diego State and Air Force are playing for the 76th time with the Aztecs owning a 53-22 series advantage. SDSU has won six straight overall and has won on its last two visits to Clune Arena.

* In three of the last four games between the teams in USAFA, Colo., the game has been decided by seven points or less. Last season -- a 77-45 SDSU victory -- is the exception.

* Air Force is 13-4 in its last 17 home games.

* Since the beginning of the 2013-14 campaign (SDSU did not play at Air Force last season), the Aztecs are 2-0 in Clune Arena, while the rest of the nation is 20-40.

* Sophomore Max Hoetzel continued his torrid shooting from beyond the arc against the Runnin' Rebels. He was 3-of-4 from bonus distance, extending his career-long streak of games with multiple treys to six. During that stretch, he is 21-of-38 (55.3 percent). In conference games, he is second nationally in three-point field-goal percentage (21-of-38, 55.3 percent), trailing only Bryce Alford of UCLA (35-of-62, 56.5 percent) (minimum six games and 3.5 three-point field goals made per game).

* As previously noted, Kell is coming off a monster game -- 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting. It marked his second career game with at least 24 points while shooting 60 percent or better from the floor. Since the beginning of the 1996-97 campaign, there have only been 51 such games by an Aztec player and only 15 players have done it more than once. Jeremy Hemsley has also done it twice.

* Kell has reached double figures in three consecutive games (one off his season high) and is averaging 16.0 points, 3.3 assists and 3.0 rebounds, while connecting on 54.5 percent from the field and 90.9 percent (10-of-11) from the free-throw line during that stretch.

* Known as one of the top defenders in the nation, and statistically the best defender in the country last season (see page 47 of the media guide), senior Dakarai Allen is making an impact on both ends of the court. The Aztecs have won 11 of the last 13 times Allen has reached double figures, something he was able to do at UNLV (10 points). In his last four games, Allen is averaging 10.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and has connected on 66.7 percent from the field.

* Looking for trends? San Diego State is 11-2 this season when junior Zylan Cheatham scores eight or more points (0-5 when he does not) and since the beginning of the 2015-16 campaign, the Aztecs are 21-1 when junior Malik Pope scores eight ot more points (18-16 when he does not). Included in the above numbers are games when the player missed due to injury.
