SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's tennis team is set to kick off its regular season Saturday against UC San Diego. The Aztecs will take on the Tritons at 2 p.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center.

The Aztecs were originally scheduled to host a doubleheader, facing off against UC Riverside at 9 a.m. and UCSD at 4 p.m., but the match against the Highlanders was postponed due to weather and the UCSD match time was adjusted. SDSU plans to reschedule its match against UC Riverside later this spring.

SDSU last faced UCSD on April 17, 2015, where the Aztecs swept the Tritons, 7-0, on senior day. Two current Aztecs, senior Kennedy Davis and junior Paola Diaz, contributed to the team's last win against UCSD in 2015.

The Aztecs had a busy fall slate in 2016, hosting two Fall Classic tournaments. Though the Aztecs did not finish Fall Classic I with any championship bracket wins, seniors Kennedy Davis and Olivia Larsson were victorious in their singles championship brackets at Fall Classic II. Davis logged a victory against Kansas State's Ana Garcia Navas, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, while Larsson topped the University of North Texas' Haruka Sasaki, 7-6 (6), 6-4.

SDSU also participated in the ITA Southwest Regionals in October at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego. Davis and Junior Paola Diaz carried the Aztecs into the doubles round of 16 at ITA Regionals, only to be stopped by Hawaii's Petra Melounova and Cindy Nguyen in an 8-2 decision.

Following this weekend's match, the Aztecs welcome Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Jan. 28, at 10 a.m. at the Aztec Tennis Center.
