SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team concluded its 2016 fall season in style with its annual alumni game on Nov. 19.

Over 40 Aztec softball alumni were in attendance and competed against the current SDSU softball team in a spirited game. The game lasted five innings and each of the former players later took batting practice (BP) against San Diego State head coach Kathy Van Wyk.

Prior to the game, the alumni and current team met in the clubhouse to tell stories and talk about playing for Van Wyk and the other coaches in program history. It was important for the current Aztecs to learn what it was like for the alumni playing back in the day and paving the way for the success of the program.

Included in the group of alumni was a large group who played in the 1990s, who also brought along their families for a planned weekend in San Diego built around the game.

The Aztecs finished 2016 with a 30-22 record, tying for third in league play with a 12-12 mark, but missing the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2007. It marked the 11th consecutive season that SDSU posted 30 wins.

San Diego State kicks off the 2017 campaign at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament from Feb. 10-12 with three games at UCLA in Los Angeles (South Dakota and UCLA on Feb. 10, Weber State on Feb. 12) and two games in Long Beach (Feb. 11 vs. Notre Dame and Long Beach State).
