The San Diego State track and field team kicks off competition for the 2017 campaign Sat., Jan. 14 at the UW Preview, held at Dempsey Indoor in Seattle, Wash.
The Aztecs will send 17 athletes to the meet, with seven Aztecs competing in multiple events.
Sophomore Je'Neal Ainsworth is slated to compete in the triple jump and long jump. Lisa-Anne Barrow and Starlynn Singleton are scheduled for the long jump and 200 meters. Senior Kira Moreland will participate in the long jump and the 60-meter dash.
Jelena McNown is on tap to compete in the triple jump, while Monique McPherson makes her Aztec debut in the 1000 meters.
Micha Auzenne is slated for the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles. Simone Glenn will run the 60 meters and 400 meters. Reigning Mountain West Women's Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year Ashley Henderson and newcomer Rochene Smith will each run the 60-meter dash and the 200 meters.
Senior Tyra Lea will participate in the 60 meters and the 400 meters. Scheduled for the 60-meter hurdles and the 400 meters is Madison Gipson. Freshman Andrenette Knight will make her debut in the 60-meter hurdles and the 400 meters.
The Aztecs' pole vault competitors are Marissa Berry, Rachel Craft, Sara Curran and Katherine Magill.
The meet gets underway at 9 a.m. with the field events. The long jump and an unseeded flight of the pole vault are the first events of the day at 9 a.m. The second pole vault flight is at 1 p.m., and the triple jump is SDSU's final field event at 2 p.m.
The Aztecs' running events start at 9:30 a.m. with the qualifying round of the 60-meter hurdles. The 60-meter dash will be held at 9:55 a.m., followed by the 1000 meters at 11:17 a.m. The final of the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles are slated for 12:35 p.m. and 12:55 p.m., respectively. The 400 meters is scheduled for 1:15 p.m., and the Aztecs' final running event is the 200 meters at 2:57 p.m.
In the 60 meters and 60-meter hurdles, eight automatic qualifiers advance to the second round. Auzenne (No. 4 seed) and Henderson (No. 6 seed) are automatic qualifiers to the second round of the 60-meter dash, while Auzenne (No. 3 seed), Gipson (No. 6 seed) and Knight (No. 8 seed) are automatic qualifiers to the second round of the 60-meter hurdles.
San Diego State and the host Huskies will be joined by competitors from Western Washington, Alaska Anchorage, Western Oregon, Western Washington, Stanford, Oregon, Hawai'i, Seattle U, Simon Fraser University, Seattle Pacific, Portland State, Portland, Gonzaga, the University of Victoria, Concordia, Trinity Western University and Washington State.
The meet will be scored for the Aztecs using dual scoring, along with Seattle U (M/W), Gonzaga (M/W), Stanford (M/W), Oregon (M/W), Washington (M/W) and Portland (M/W).
