SAN DIEGO -

Weekly Release

In possession of its best record to start conference play since the 2012-13 season, San Diego State will go for its sixth win in seven games when it travels to Northern California for a midweek matchup at San José State. Tip on Weds., Jan. 11 is set for 7 p.m. Chris Ello will call the play-by-play action for live audio on GoAztecs.com, while the game will be streamed on the Mountain West Network.

The Scarlet and Black had its most tenacious win to date, using a come-from-behind fourth quarter to topple Boise State, 84-77, on Jan. 7. Trailing 61-56 heading into the final frame, San Diego State out-scored the Broncos, 30-16, and scored five 3-pointers in 2:55 for the win. Lexy Thorderson led the team with a career-high 20 points on six treys, also a career high. Boise State was picked to finish second in the conference in the preseason coaches' poll.

San Diego State is firing on all cylinders, just in time for the start of conference play. The Aztecs have won five of their last six contests, in possession of a 2-1 Mountain West record for the first time since the 2012-13 season. The team's only loss came to New Mexico, who currently tops the league with an undefeated 4-0 mark.

A huge part of the Aztecs' success in the early going has been its play from beyond the 3-point arc. Against Boise State, SDSU knocked down 11 3-pointers for its second straight game with 10-or-more treys after getting 10 against the Wolf Pack. This was the first time since at least the 1999-2000 season that the Scarlet and Black had back-to-back games with at 10-or-more 3-pointers.

San José State (4-11, 1-2 MW) is coming off of an 88-74 loss at Fresno State, during which the Spartans let a first-half lead slip away, allowing the Bulldogs to go on a 16-0 third-quarter run to open the period. After opening league play with a 107-84 home win against Nevada, SJSU lost a heartbreaker in overtime at Colorado State, 70-67. The Spartans are one of the best teams in the country when shooting from beyond the 3-point arc. They top the league and rank 15th nationally with 414 3-point attempts, and are 29th nationally and second in the conference with 124 3-pointers made and 8.3 3-pointers per game.
