Akbar Gbaja-Biamila Named Aztec Warrior vs. California

SAN DIEGO - The Honor Warrior for San Diego State football's game against California on Sat., Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. will be Akbar Gbaja-Biamila, a former Aztec, five-year NFL veteran, and current co-host of the show American Ninja Warrior.

As an Honor Warrior, Gbaja-Biamila will be handed the spear from the Aztec Warrior prior to the 2016 Aztecs taking the field and will throw it into the ground. He will also be honored midfield prior to team introductions.

A four-year letterwinner at San Diego State, Gbaja-Biamila was an honorable mention all-Mountain West Conference defensive lineman as a senior in 2002. He finished his collegiate career with 96 tackles, 12 sacks and 22 tackles for losses.

Gbaja-Biamila has played professionally for the Oakland Raiders, San Diego Chargers and the Miami Dolphins.

Upon the conclusion of his career in the NFL, Gbaja-Biamila transitioned into broadcast sports, where he has worked as an analyst for the Mountain Network, CBS Sports Network, CBS College Sports, and the NFL Network. Gbaja-Biamila is currently a commentator on the athletic competition series American Ninja Warrior.

Tickets for the game against California are available at the Aztec Ticket Office through the duration of this week, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. at Qualcomm Stadium.

The Aztec Athletic Ticket Office, located at Qualcomm Stadium Window E, is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Individual tickets start at $16 and may also be purchased online at GoAztecs.com or over the phone at (619) 283-7378.

Current San Diego State students can obtain one free ticket with a valid SDSU Student RED ID (card must be swipe valid) located in the designated Student Areas of Qualcomm Stadium. Tickets can be retrieved at the Viejas Arena Box Office Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students can also pick up their ticket on game day at Qualcomm Stadium Windows B, F and H.

Football season tickets are still available and can be purchased by logging onto GoAztecs.com, calling 619-283-7378, or visiting the Aztec Ticket Office at Qualcomm Stadium Window E. Fans who purchase season tickets will receive a free Donnel Pumphrey bobblehead for each season ticket purchased. The bobblehead may be picked up before the California game at the table in the Aztec Village (Qualcomm Parking Lot C1 / D1) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The game will also be televised on the CBS Sports Network and will feature Carter Blackburn providing play-by-play, Aaron Taylor serving as the game's analyst, and Jenny Dell covering the action from the sidelines.
