SAN DIEGO - Despite not playing a game last week, San Diego State moved up three spots and is now ranked 19th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. The Aztecs (3-0) are also ranked 24th in the Amway Coaches Poll.
SDSU’s No. 19 ranking in the AP Poll is its highest mark since being ranked 16th in the final poll in 1977. San Diego State is ranked in the Coaches Poll for the first time since being checking in at No. 21 on Sept. 21, 1992.
In the AP Poll, the Aztecs have 304 points, up from 183 a week ago when they came in at No. 22. SDSU is ahead of No. 20 Arkansas (241), TCU (239), Texas (217), Florida (176), Boise State (163) and Georgia (142) in the poll, and just behind No. 18 Utah (493).
In the Coaches Poll, San Diego State has 156 points a week after garnering 87 points (28th most). The Aztecs are ahead of No. 25 Texas (142) and just behind No. 23 North Carolina (173).
SDSU is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2011 and for just the second time in the last 35 seasons. San Diego State, which is coming off its first unbeaten September since the 1981 squad went 2-0, has won 13 consecutive games, outscoring the opposition, 482-189 (37.1-14.5) over the streak. It is the second-longest active win streak in the nation behind the defending national champion Alabama (16) and is the longest in school history since a 21-game streak from 1968-70. Eleven of the 13 Aztec wins during the streak have come by at least 14 points.
SDSU plays South Alabama in Mobile, Ala., at 7 p.m. CT (5 p.m. PT) Saturday.
