Complete Release and Season Statistics
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Including the completion of a suspended contest, San Diego State and Air Force will play five games this weekend starting this evening at 5:00 p.m. at Tony Gwynn Stadium.
The Aztecs and Falcons will resume a game that was halted in Colorado Springs in mid-March due to SDSU travel commitments. That contest will begin at 5:00 p.m. with Air Force leading 10-7 in the top of the eighth and the Aztecs at the plate with two out and a runner at first base.
Approximately 30 minutes after the completion of that contest (or 6:00 p.m., whichever is later) , the Aztecs and Falcons will play the scheduled nine-inning affair between the teams.
Air Force enters the weekend with a record of 25-20 overall and 9-13 in the Mountain West having set a team record for most Division I wins in a season. The Falcons are currently in fifth place in the league standings, three games in the loss column ahead of SDSU.
The Academy will send sophomore right-hander Nick Biancalana (3-2, 4.44) to the mound in the scheduled nine-inning contest tonight.
San Diego State, meanwhile, comes into the day with an overall record of 14-32. The Aztecs' mark of 6-16 in conference games has them in sixth place entering this series. Both teams are looking to finish fifth or higher in the final MW standings to avoid the play-in game at the Mountain West Tournament in Albuquerque in two weeks.
SDSU is expected to start junior left-hander Dominic Purpura (2-2, 4.02) in this evening's regularly scheduled contest.
Following tonight's action, the Aztecs and Falcons will play a doubleheader on Saturday (May 14) starting at noon with a seven-inning game in which the Falcons will be the home team. That contest is the makeup of a game that was snowed out at Air Force earlier this year.
The second game of the twin bill, a nine-inning affair, will commence approximately half an hour after completion of the opener.
