SAN DIEGO, Calif. - San Diego State will be at Long Beach State this evening for a contest scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m. (PT) at Blair Field.
LBSU enters the day with a record of 22-16 after dropping two of three contests at UC Riverside last weekend. The 49ers will be looking to avenge a loss to the Aztecs on April 5th at Tony Gwynn Stadium when SDSU scored a run in the bottom of the 12th inning for a 6-5 victory.
Long Beach State is led by shortstop Garrett Hampson (.304, 6 doubles, 16 RBI) and third baseman Zack Domingues (.299, 6 doubles).
LBSU will once against start freshman lefty Jacob Hughey (0-1, 4.26) against the Aztecs. In the earlier game in San Diego, Hughey went two innings allowing a pair of runs, but was not involved in the decision.
After Sunday's win at New Mexico. San Diego State enters the week with a record of 12-25.
The Aztecs continue to be led at the plate by shortstop Alan Trejo (.344, 23 RBI). Outfielder Spencer Thornton has also been hot of late, batting .342 with three home runs and 11 runs scored over SDSU's last 13 outings.
San Diego state will open this evening's game with freshman right-hander Chris Collins (2-1, 7.36) on the mound. Both teams are expected to use a number of hurlers as they prepare for conference series this weekend.
Following tonight's contest, the Aztecs will return home for a three-game Mountain West series against Nevada that gets underway on Friday, April 29, at Tony Gwynn Field.
The Wolf Pack and Aztecs will complete a game that was suspended in Reno earlier this season starting at 5:00 p.m. That game will resume in the bottom of the 10th inning with the score tied 6-6 and will be followed by the regularly-scheduled contest at 6:00 p.m. (pending the length of the suspended contest).
