A trip to a local elementary school to pass out shoes to needy children highlighted a busy Thursday at the Las Vegas Bowl in Las Vegas.
While most of the team was practicing at Rebel Park in the morning, San Diego State student-athletes Marcus Stamps, Joe Salcedo, Julian Rochelin, Na'im McGee, Will Stricklin II, Turner Bernard, Randy Ricks, Tyler Morris, Kahale Warring, Grady Vazquez and Chad Woolsey visited CP Squires Elementary school for the Goodie Shoes Foundation Shoe Distribution. The players assisted with the Goodie Two Shoes Shoe Distribution to over 400 children from the elementary school, one of the lowest income schools in the Las Vegas area. The student-athletes had the opportunity to take the children shop through the G2S Trailer and pick out athletic shoes. Many of the children were picking up new shoes for the first time.
Members of the travel party also took part in Town Square Ladies' Day, which consisted of an afternoon dining experience and Las Vegas shopping experience at Town Square. Lunch was served at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar. Other members of the travel party went to GameWorks Kid Day at the same Town Square Las Vegas.
Later in the evening, the Aztecs went to The Linq Promenade to ride the High Roller. The band, cheerleaders, dancers and fans greeted the team as they walked the Linq Promenade to the High Roller, the World's Largest Observation Wheel. The High Roller is one of the city's most spectacular attractions with unforgettable views of the Las Vegas Strip from 550 feet in the air. Following the ride, members of the official party selected their bowl gifts.
On the schedule for Friday is the Kickoff Media Conference, Kickoff Luncheon and Fremont Street Experience Pep Rally.
SDSU (10-3) and Houston (9-3) kick off the Las Vegas Bowl at 12:30 p.m. PT Saturday.
