San Diego State senior running back Donnel Pumphrey (Las Vegas) has been named an AFCA second-team All-American, the American Football Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Pumphrey has now been named an All-America selection by seven major organizations and outlets, including first-team honors by Walter Camp and Sports Illustrated, and a second-team pick by Associated Press, AFCA, FWAA, The Sporting News and USA Today.

Also a Doak Walker Award finalist, Pumphrey has rushed for a school-record 2,018 yards and 16 touchdowns on 330 carries (6.1 avg.), while tying for the team lead with 26 catches for 205 yards (9.9 avg.).

Pumphrey, a back-to-back Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and a three-time first-team all-MW pick, currently ranks second in the nation in rushing yards (2,018), rushing yards per game (155.2) and all-purpose yards (2,229), despite not playing in the fourth quarter in four of the past seven games. He's also seventh in all-purpose yards per game (171.5), eighth in rushing yards per carry (6.1, min. 220 att.) and ninth in rushing touchdowns (16).

Pumphrey enters his final collegiate game in need of 108 yards to pass Wisconsin's Ron Dayne as the NCAA FBS all-time rushing leader. His 2,018 yards this year are also tied for the 19th most in NCAA single-season history.

San Diego State (10-3) and Houston (9-3) kick off the Las Vegas Bowl at 12:30 p.m. PT Saturday.
