SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State rowing team spent the weekend in Sarasota, Fla., participating in the Sarasota-Bradenton Chase Race, held at Nathan Benderson Park. The Aztecs participated in events on Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 5-6, hosted by the Suncoast Aquatic Nature Center Associates.
On Saturday, the Aztecs participated in the 5000-meter race, as well as the 500-meter sprints on Sunday. SDSU logged a time of 19:02 on the winding 5000-meter course, the fastest time of the day compared to all other women's crew as well as several other men's crews. During Sunday's 500-meter sprints, the Aztecs logged an unofficial time of 1:42 into a very strong headwind.
Though the race weekend featured no other collegiate teams, the Aztecs gained some valuable course time in Sarasota, as Nathan Benderson Park will play host to the 2017 American Athletic Conference Rowing Championships next spring.
SDSU gets back in the water in Mission Bay this Sunday, Nov. 13, at 7:30 a.m. for the San Diego Fall Classic.
Lineup:
Hannah Norris (bow), Hannah Gasser (two), Gina Bourke (three), Lauren Mitchell (four), Brynn Danvers (five), Christa Charrillo (six), Madeline Bernard (stroke), Alyssa Lua (coxswain).
