Aztecs Set to Face New Mexico This Afternoon

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – San Diego State opens its final road trip of the 2016 season with a match at New Mexico this afternoon scheduled to get underway at 2:00 p.m. MT (1:00 p.m. PT) at the Johnson Center in Albuquerque.

UNM enters the contest with a record of 15-15 overall and 5-11 in the Mountain West. The Lobos ended a three-match losing streak with a three-set victory at Nevada this past Wednesday.

New Mexico is led by outside hitter Cassie House, whose average of 3.32 kills per set ranks ninth in the conference this week. Libero Ashely Kelsey is second in the league in kills with an average of 4.24 per set.

San Diego State will look to continue the momentum of its most recent two matches that include a come-from-behind five-set win over Wyoming and a three-set upset of UNLV. The Aztecs are 16-14 overall and 8-8 in Mountain West play. Having already clinched at least a .500 overall finish, SDSU is looking to conclude the season at .500 or higher in Mountain West action for the seventh consecutive year.

The Aztecs have five players who rank among the top 10 in the conference statistics in various categories. Sophomore Alexandra Psoma is eighth in kill average at 3.39 per set and also ranks eighth in points at 3.74 per set.

Fellow soph Deja Harris stands seventh in the league in hitting percentage with a mark of .335 and she enter today's match eighth in blocking with a mark of 1.07 per set.

Other Aztecs among the top 10s included setter Indigo Thompson (9.20 assists per set - seventh), defensive specialist Danielle Bolden (0.35 aces per set - fifth) and libero Devyn Pritchard (3.28 dogs per set - seventh).

Following this afternoon's match in Albuquerque, San Diego State will move on to Reno for its final contest of the 2016 season at Nevada on Monday, Nov. 21, at 6:00 p.m. at the Wolf Pack's Virginia Street Gym.
