Pumphrey, who yesterday was named a Doak Walker Award semifinalist (top running back) and is also a Maxwell Award semifinalist (top college player), currently leads the nation with 1,779 rushing yards, 166 more yards than the next player, despite not playing in the fourth quarter in three of the past four games. He has rushed 277 times for 1,779 yards (6.6 avg.) and 14 touchdowns, while adding 20 catches for 145 yards (7.2 avg.). His 177.9 yards per game are more than 64 other FBS teams and would rank in a tie for 64th in the country as a "team."

Pumphrey currently has a career-long streak of nine games with at least 100 yards, compiling 1,681 yards (186.8 avg.) and 13 touchdowns over the stretch. Pumphrey, who has four games this year with at least 220 yards (only two other players have more than one game with 220 yards), also leads the country in all-purpose yards (1,939), and is tied for sixth in rushing touchdowns (14) and tied for 14th in overall scores (14).

Pumphrey enters Saturday's game with Wyoming ranked fourth in NCAA history with 6,051 yards. He's also tied for ninth in rushing touchdowns (59), 11th in overall touchdowns (64) and 12th in all-purpose yards (7,075). Additionally, Pumphrey needs just 45 receiving yards to become the first player in NCAA FBS history with at least 5,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards.

A list of five finalists will be announced on Wednesday, Nov. 30 and the winner will be broadcast live on ESPN SportsCenter on Thursday, Dec. 8. The Walter Camp Player of the Year is voted on by the 128 FBS head coaches and sports information directors.

Pumphrey is one of three running backs on the list and one of only two players from a Group of 5 school.

Walter Camp, "The Father of American football," first selected an All-America team in 1889. Camp, a former Yale athlete and football coach, is also credited with developing play from scrimmage, set plays, the numerical assessment of goals and tries and the restriction of play to 11 men per side.

The Aztecs, who are ranked 24th in the AP poll and 25th in the Coaches poll, have won 17 straight games against conference opponents, seven straight MW road games, six consecutive overall and 19 of their last 20 contests. Off to its best start since 1977 at 9-1, SDSU travels to Wyoming for its final road game of the regular season at 1:30 p.m. MT Saturday.
