SDSU is off to a 7-1 start, its best start since 1977, and is 4-0 in Mountain West play. A San Diego State win and Nevada loss later in the night at New Mexico will clinch a spot in the MW Championship game for the Aztecs for the second consecutive season. SDSU has also won 17 of its last 18 games, 15 straight against conference opponents and nine consecutive at home.
Saturday's game is one of the last two chances during the regular season to watch San Diego State senior running back and Heisman candidate Donnel Pumphrey play at Qualcomm Stadium. Pumphrey leads the nation in rushing yards (1,469), rushing yards per game (183.6) and all-purpose yards per game (202.5), and is tied for third in rushing touchdowns (13), fourth in rushing yards per carry (6.59, min. 130 att.) and tied for fourth in overall touchdowns (13). His 183.6 rushing yards per game average currently rank 10th in NCAA FBS single-season history and are more than 76 other teams in FBS this year.
This week alone, Pumphrey was named a Maxwell Award semifinalist (college player of the year), while senior linebacker Calvin Munson (Lott IMPACT Trophy quarterfinalist), senior punter Tanner Blain (Ray Guy Award Watch List), senior offensive tackle Daniel Brunskill (Burlsworth Trophy nominee) and sophomore kicker John Baron (Lou Groza Award semifinalist) each received national recognition.
Fans are encouraged to purchase tickets through GoAztecs.com, over the phone by calling (619) 283-7378, or by visiting Qualcomm Stadium's Window E between 9 a.m. PT and 5 p.m. PT.
There will be numerous activities surrounding the game, including Marshall Faulk as the Aztec Honor Warrior, the 1966 SDSU Wire Service College Division champions being honored for an 11-0 season, the third annual Aztec Varsity Club Tailgate (beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the Wells Fargo Aztec Village (Parking Lot C-1/D-1) and the inaugural Great Alumni Tailgate (also beginning at 1:30 in the Wells Fargo Aztec Village). Additionally, the first 2,000 San Diego State students through Gate J will receive a complementary Aztec beach towel.
