SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego State volleyball team will be on Aztec Court this evening for a Mountain West match against Air Force scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m. (PT). SDSU will look to complete a season sweep of the Falcons after defeating the cadets in three sets in Colorado Springs in early October.
The Aztecs have an all-time record of 35-5 against Air Force, but the Falcons have won three of the last four matches in the series. Air Force swept both matches during the 2015 campaign including a five-set win on Aztec Court that marked their first-ever victory on SDSU's home court.
Air Force's record stands at 9-14 overall and 0-10 in league play. The Falcons have dropped each of their last 10 matches including conference contests against New Mexico and UNLV last weekend. The Falcons' top players include Elizabeth Pennington (3.64 kps, 0.68 dps) and Abigail Miksch (3.47 kps, 0.77 dps).
The Aztecs, meanwhile, enter tonight's contest with a record of 13-10 overall and 5-4 in conference action. They are currently tie for fifth in the league standings, two matches behind tri-leaders UNLV, Boise State and Colorado State.
Sophomore Alexandra Psoma continues to lead the SDSU offense with an average of 3.12 kills per set in all matches, a mark that is just outside the top 10 (11th) in the Mountain West this week. After nine Mountain West matches, she is averaging 3.26 kills per set in league play to rank ninth in the category in conference contests. She has finished in double figures in kills in eight of SDSU's last nine matches.
Middle blocker Deja Harris has hit .300 or higher in 15 of SDSU's 23 matches this season. Her .384 hitting percentage in all matches this season stands second in the conference this week. She is eighth in league play with a .326 hitting percentage.
Defensive specialist Danielle Bolden has recorded at least one service ace in eight of the Aztecs' last nine matches. Her mark of 0.47 aces per set in conference matches ranks fourth this week while her overall mark of 0.31 aces per set stands seventh in the league stats. In addition, Bolden's averages of 2.30 digs per set in all matches and 2.26 per set in conference play are second only to libero Devyn Pritchard for the team lead.
Following tonight's contest, the Aztecs will prepare for the visit of Boise State on Saturday, Oct. 29, at 6:00 p.m. (PT) on Aztec Court.
