BOULDER CITY, Nev. -- For the second time this month, the San Diego State women's golf team has had a scheduled tournament shortened as Monday's second round at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown was canceled due to lightning in the area. The event will now consist of 36 holes, with the final round slated for a Tuesday completion at the par-72, 6,301-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club
The Aztecs finished Sunday's opening round in a tie for third place with host UNLV after carding an 8-under-par 280. With its total, SDSU remains seven shots in back of front-runner Baylor (-15), while Idaho (-10) occupies the No. 2 spot.
Individually, Aztec junior Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay) is currently tied for fifth after shooting a season-low 4-under 68, highlighted by five birdies, while fellow classmate Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.) occupies the 15th position on the leaderboard following an opening-round 70.
Elsewhere, senior Natalie Vivaldi (Oceanside, Calif.) and junior Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.) are both tied for 26th after each logged a 71 on Sunday.
UC Riverside's Hannah Facchini and Marisa Vesga of Baylor share the lead after 18 holes at 6-under, while Idaho's Clara Moyano and Alexandra Farnsworth are one stroke behind in a tie for third at 5-under.
In its last outing at the Stanford Intercollegiate, SDSU played just 36 holes as well after standing water accumulated on several greens at Stanford Golf Course during the final round after a torrential rain in the Bay Area. Severe thunderstorms also suspended the second round of the Aztecs' season opener in September at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., before play resumed on the final day of competition.
Following the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, SDSU will remain idle until their spring opener at the Northrup Grumman Regional Challenge, Feb. 12-14, 2017, in Palos Verdes, Calif.
