SAN DIEGO -
Day two of the ITA Southwest Regional Championships concluded with doubles pair Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz moving on to the round of 16. The tournament continues through Monday at the Barnes Tennis Center in Point Loma.
In doubles action, senior Kennedy Davis and junior Paola Diaz were in sync and downed Laura Gulbe and Jean Runglerdkriangkrai of Pepperdine, 8-5. Junior Jana Buth and senior Taylor Lederman were unable to pull out a win, falling to CSUN's Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei, 8-3.
In singles play, the Aztecs were unsuccessful in advancing to the round of 16. Buth put up a tough fight, but could not get past Arizona's Samantha Czarniak, dropping 7-6 (9), 2-6, 6-4. Despite a close second set, Lederman was also unable to take down her opponent, USD's Daniela Morales, falling 6-0, 7-6 (4).
The doubles team of Davis and Diaz will represent the Aztecs tomorrow in the round of 16, taking on Hawaii's Petra Melounova and Cindy Nguyen at 9 a.m. In addition, several other Aztecs will take the court in consolation matchups.
The third day of the ITA Regionals will get underway tomorrow at 9 a.m. at the Barnes Tennis Center.
