TULSA, Okla.-- After posting two victories to open the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships, San Diego State men's tennis junior Santiago Cevallos (Queretaro, Mexico) came up short in his quest to qualify for the main singles draw Sunday after falling in the round of 64 of the pre-qualifying bracket at Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Cevallos suffered a 6-0, 6-2 defeat at the hands of Columbia's Alex Keyser, who also won his round of 32 match later in the afternoon against Nick Stachowiak of Duke by a 6-2, 6-1 count.
Cevallos will return to the court on Monday, when he teams with fellow Aztec Milen Ianakiev in the qualifying doubles bracket. The SDSU tandem will square off against the Virginia Tech duo of Jai Corbett and Mitch Harper in the round of 64, beginning at 3 p.m. CT/1 p.m. PT.
