The San Diego State women's tennis team wrapped the beginning of their fall slate today with the final day of the SDSU Fall Classic I. Though the Aztecs were not victorious in the championship brackets, the team put together five wins in consolation matches.
In the red doubles bracket, Mia Smith and Alli Valk fell to Lana Rinaldi and Emilia Occhipinti of GCU, 6-2, while Berta Acero and Olivia Larsson claimed a victory against Ki Kim and Elisa Elhadj of CSUN in the consolation bracket, 6-3.
The Aztecs were not successful in the black doubles draw, with Taylor Lederman and Jana Buth falling to Mickey Hsu and Kristen Poei of CSUN, 6-3. Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz were also unable to grab a win, conceding to Sierra Alcon and Mari Udagawa of CSUN, 6-3.
In singles action, SDSU recorded a win and a loss in consolation matches in the red bracket. Larsson took down Maria Torres of USD, 6-1, 6-2, while Lederman could not get past Susie Baklini of GCU, 6-4, 6-4.
In the black draw, Buth could not get past Jessica Perez of LMU in the championship bracket, 6-2, 6-3. In the consolation round, Davis downed CSUN's Hsu, 6-3, 6-1.
Marina Colvee was able to take down Mya Etienne of GCU, 6-2, 6-3, in the white consolation bracket.
The gold singles bracket also featured just one Aztec in a consolation matchup, where Mia Smith had a tough time against Lana Rinaldi of GCU, falling 6-1, 6-0.
In the silver draw, Valk and Acero were both victorious in their consolation matches, with Valk defeating Marie Deleval of GCU, 7-5, 6-3, and Acero downing CSUN's Samantha Judan, 6-4, 6-0.
The next tournament on the Aztecs' fall slate will be the ITA Regionals, Oct. 20 ââ'¬" 24, at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego.
