The San Diego State women's tennis team is set to participate in the ITA Southwest Regional Championships, starting on Thursday, Oct. 20. The tournament will be held at the Barnes Tennis Center, located in the San Diego community of Point Loma. SDSU will be co-hosting the tournament, which runs through Monday, Oct. 24, alongside the University of San Diego.
The tournament will feature both singles and doubles competitions, with participants hailing from 15 schools total, including University of Arizona, UCSB, UCLA, Hawaii, USD, UC Irvine, LMU, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, CSU Fullerton, UC Riverside, USC, CSU Northridge and Grand Canyon University. The first round of matches is set to begin Thursday at 9 a.m.
At the 2015 ITA Regional tournament, SDSU saw one doubles team and one singles player advance to the quarterfinal round of their respective draws, while two other players also reached the consolation draw. Of these participants, junior Jana Buth and senior Taylor Lederman will return this year, along with seniors Kennedy Davis and Olivia Larsson, who will be looked to for their leadership during the tournament.
Complete results from each day of the ITA Regional will be posted on GoAztecs.com. The winner of the tournament in doubles and the finalists in singles will advance to the ITA National Indoors on Feb. 10-13, 2017, in New Haven, Conn.
Following the ITA Southwest Regionals, the team will move on to the Dick Vitale College Tournament on Nov. 4-6 in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
