LARAMIE, Wyo. – The San Diego State Aztec volleyball team will be in Laramie, Wyo., this evening to take on Mountain West foe Wyoming in a match scheduled to get underway at 6:30 p.m. MT (5:30 p.m. PT).
San Diego State has a record of 34-16 all-time vs Wyoming since the teams first met during the 1984 season. The Cowgirls, however, have won five of the last six meetings between the teams over the past three years with SDSU's last win coming in San Diego during the 2014 campaign.
The Cowgirls enter the contest with a record of 11-7 overall and 4-1 in conference play having won 10 of their last 12 matches. Wyoming is led offensively by Kayla Slofkiss (2.84 kps, 2.64 dps) and Laure Beach (2.64 kps, 0.98 bps). Reed Copeland is averaging 1.25 blocks per set.
San Diego State, meanwhile, has a record of 12-7 (4-1 MW) and has been victorious in 8 of its last 10 outings.
Sophomore setter Lauren Utchen made her second start of the season in last Saturday's (Oct. 8) win over San Jose State. In that match she set a career high with 44 assists in just three sets. Her previous high this season was 33 assists over five sets vs. UC Irvine.
Sophomore Alexandra Psoma continues to lead the SDSU offense with an average of 3.26 kills per set, a mark that is just outside the top 10 in the Mountain West this week. After five Mountain West matches, she is averaging 3.94 kills per set in league play.
Senior middle blocker turned in back-to-back excellent performances last weekend against Fresno State and San Jose State. She recorded 11 kills vs. Fresno State with a .474 hitting percentage and added five blocks. In the match vs. San Jose State she had 10 kills, three blocks and a .692 attack mark. Over the two contests, Fuzie averaged 3.00 kills/set, 1.14 blocks per set and a .563 hitting percentage.
Deja Harris has hit .300 or higher in eight of SDSU's last 10 matches and has a .415 hitting percentage over that span. Her .391 hitting percentage in all matches this season is among the top three in the conference this week. She has been in double figures in kills in six of the Aztecs' last eight contests.
Following tonight's match, the Aztecs will move on to Fort Collins, Colo., where they will get set to face league-leading Colorado State on Saturday, Oct. 15, at 1:00 p.m. (MT) in Moby Arena.
