San Diego State Visits Fresno State for Friday Night Showdown
* San Diego State looks to extend its streak of 12 consecutive victories over Mountain West opponents when the Aztecs hit the road for the third time in four games to face Fresno State on Friday night at 7 p.m. PT.
* Since the Mountain West began division play in 2013, SDSU and Fresno State have claimed every West Division title. The Bulldogs won division crowns in 2013* and 2014, while the Aztecs claimed the title in 2015*. * - indicates team won league championship game
* SDSU, which owns a 28-23-4 advantage in the series and claimed a 21-7 victory at Qualcomm Stadium last season, is looking for its first win in Fresno since 1997.
* The Aztecs carry a 12-game conference win streak (includes conference championship game) into Friday's game. That is tied with Clemson for the nation's longest active win streak against league foes. During that streak, SDSU has outscored its opponents, 410-142.
* San Diego State has not dropped a game to a Mountain West opponent since Nov. 15, 2014 and has not lost a home game to a league foe since Oct. 26, 2013 (12 straight victories).
* At 4-1, San Diego State is off to its best start of a season in 20 years (since the 1996 squad opened 4-1). A victory would give the Aztecs their best opening to a campaign since the 1977 squad opened 5-1. That is also the last time SDSU ended a campaign ranked in the AP Top 25 (17th).
* Heisman Trophy candidate Donnel Pumphrey continues to lead all of FBS this season in rushing yards (891), rushing yards per game (178.2), and all-purpose yards per game (204.4). He is third in rushing touchdowns (9) and has four consecutive 100-yard rushing games.
* Pumphrey, a senior from Las Vegas, is the active FBS career leader in rushing yards (5,163), rushing touchdowns (54), all-purpose yards (6,167), 100-yard rushing games (26) and total touchdowns scored (59).
* Pumphrey continues to climb the official NCAA career rushing chart. His 5,163 yards rushing currently places him 14th on that chart. He needs 1,235 yards to surpass Ron Dayne's (Wisconsin) career total of 6,397. If SDSU plays nine more games (would mean the Aztecs play in a conference championship and bowl game), Pumphrey would have to average 137.2 yards to break the record.
* Defensively, San Diego State is once again among the nation's elite. Since the beginning of the 2015 season, the Aztecs are third in turnovers forced (43), fourth in rushing yards per attempt (3.1), seventh in total offense allowed per game (294.1) and eighth in points allowed per game (18.3)
* Since Oct. 3, 2015, San Diego State owns the nation's third-best record at 14-1 (.933), trailing only Alabama (17-0, 1.000) and Clemson (17-1, .944), and ahead of Ohio State (13-1, .929) and Houston (15-2, .882).
* Fresno State is 80-26 (75.5 percent) in its last 106 home games since Oct. 3, 1998, including a 53-18 record in league home games.
