Fall Classic I Day Two Results
Day two of the SDSU Fall Classic I concluded with the Aztec women's tennis team picking up five wins. The three day, five-team tournament being held at the Aztec Tennis Center will wrap on Sunday, Oct. 2.
In doubles play, Mia Smith and Alli Valk defeated Gemma Garcia and Jessica Regehr of USD, 7-6 (4), in the red draw. In the same bracket, Berta Acero and Olivia Larsson downed Anna Romeka and Camila Tumosa of LMU, 6-4, in the consolation match.
In the black doubles draw, Kennedy Davis and Paola Diaz fell to Tatum Prudhomme and Susie Baklini of GCU, 6-4. In the consolation match, Taylor Lederman and Jana Buth overcame Skyla Alcon and Mari Udagawa of CSUN, 6-2.
In singles action, Lederman defeated Lana Rinaldi of (GCU), 6-2, 6-2, in the red consolation bracket.
In the black bracket, Buth notched a win against GCU's Prudhomme, 6-4, 6-3. Kennedy Davis could not get past Jessica Perez of LMU, falling 6-3, 6-2.
Emilia Occhipinti of GCU took down Colvee in the white bracket, 6-3, 6-2.
The gold draw would see three Aztecs fall in tough battles. Diaz would fall to CSUN's Alcon, 6-0 3-6, 6-2. Smith fell in a three-set consolation battle against CSUN's Ki Kim, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2. Larsson would also be defeated in the consolation bracket by Sasha Petrzalkova of GCU, 5-7, 6-1, 7-6 (0).
The silver draw also proved difficult for the Aztecs, with Valk falling in a 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 decision to USD's Regehr. In addition, Acero was defeated by Kristen Poei of CSUN, 6-2, 6-4.
The final day of the Fall Classic I will get underway tomorrow at 9 a.m. with doubles play. Singles action will immediately follow.
