SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The San Diego State volleyball team will continue home action this afternoon when it hosts Mountain West foe San Jose State for a match scheduled to get underway at 1:00 p.m. (PT) on Aztec Court.
The Aztecs have an all-time record of 19-8 in their series against San Jose State. The Spartans last bested San Diego State in 2014 at home with SDSU winning the last three in a row and five of the last six encounters between the schools.
San Jose State's record stands at 8-9 overall and 1-4 in league play entering the week. The Spartans have dropped five of their last six contests including a three-set defeat at Nevada on Thursday
SJSU's top player is Brazilian outside hitter Giulia Gavio (3.75 kps, 2.50 dps). The Spartans' roster features seven foreign athletes including four from Brazil and one each from Estonia, Iceland and the Czech Republic.
San Diego State enters today's match with a record of 11-7 overall and 3-1 in Mountain West play. With their four-set win over Fresno State on Thursday, the Aztecs moved into a tie for third place in the league standings.
Six SDSU players rank among the top 10 in the Mountain West statistics entering the weekend. That group includes Alexandra Psoma in kills (3.15 per set), Deja Harris in hitting percentage (.401) and Indigo Thompson in assists (9.06 per set.
In addition, the list also includes Danielle Bolden in service aces (0.34 per set), Devyn Pritchard in digs (3.32 per set) and Emma Fuzie in blocks (1.09 per set).
Following today's match, the Aztecs will get set to travel to Laramie for a match against Wyoming on Thursday, Oct. 13, at 6:30 p.m. (MT).
