SAN DIEGO – The San Diego State volleyball team is set to face No. 7 University of San Diego in a match this evening at 6:00 p.m. (PT) on Aztec Court.
The seventh-ranked Toreros enter the contest with a record of 8-2 after winning each of their last seven matches, a run that includes victories over No. 7 UCLA and No. 18 Colorado. As a team, USD leads the nation in kills (15.67 per set) and assists (14.83 per set).
San Diego State, meanwhile, is riding a four-match winning streak to improve to 8-5 and has the reigning Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week in Deja Harris.
Harris, a sophomore middle blocker from Las Vegas, set a school record with a .909 hitting percentage in last Saturday's contest against Cal State Fullerton. Her season mark of .431 leads the conference this week and ranks fifth in the nation.
Alexandra Psoma continues to lead the team in kills with an average of 3.04 per set while Emma Fuzie is the op blocker with a mark of 1.17 blocks per set.
Sophomore transfer Indigo Thompson (Virginia Commonwealth) has been SDSU's starting setter over the past five matches and has responded by recording a mark of 10.88 assists per set.
The Aztecs have used a trio of players at the libero position this season with Devyn Pritchard the latest to move into the starting role there. Pritchard leads the team in digs at 3.46 per set.
Following tonight's contest, San Diego State will prepare to open its 2016 Mountain West season on Saturday, Sept. 24, when Utah State visits Aztec Court for a match scheduled to get underway at 6:00 p.m. (PT).
