AZTECS HOST UCI, TRAVEL NORTHEAST FOR ART CARMICHAEL CLASSIC
San Diego State begins its week by hosting UC Irvine for a match on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6:00 p.m. on Aztec Court in Peterson Gym. Two days later the Aztecs will be in Kingston, R.I., to play in the Art Carmichael Invitational hosted by the University of Rhode Island. In addition to the host Rams, the other tourney participants include Notre Dame and Stony Brook. The Aztecs will get their portion tourney underway with a contest against Rhode Island on Friday, Sept. 9, at 7:00 p.m. (ET) in Keaney Gymnasium. ALL-TOURNAMENT AZTECS
Sophomore middle blocker Deja Harris and senior outside hitter Alexis Cage were named to the all-tournament at last weekend's Oregon Classic. Harris averaged 2.60 kills and 1.20 blocks per set over SDSU's three matches. Cage had 2.10 kills per set and averaged 3.1 digs per set as well.
REEVES IMPRESSES IN FIRST START
Freshman middle blocker Tamia Reeves, making just her second appearance and first start as an Aztec, was impressive in the four-set win over Murray State. The first-year Aztec from Carrollton, Texas (Hebron HS) recorded 13 kills along with a .722 hitting percentage in the match. She also averaged 1.20 blocks per set. She has not committed an attacking error in the two matches in which she has appeared (21 total attacks).
PSOMA LEAD HITTERS
Sophomore Alexandra Psoma continues to lead the SDSU offense with an average of 2.77 kills per set. During last weekend's Oregon Classic she averaged 3.20 kills per set over the Aztecs' three matches (10 sets). She set her season highs in kills and digs with 15 and nine respectively in the win over Murray State. Psoma has reached double figures in kills in three of SDSU's six matches in 2016.
HARRIS CONTINUES HOT HAND
Deja Harris turned in season highs with 12 kills and a .611 hitting percentage in the win over UC Davis last Friday. She also tied her season best with five blocks. She leads the Aztec front line among the regulars with a .354 hitting mark along with an average of 1.14 blocks per set. Her hitting percentage after six matches ranks eighth in the Mountain West this week while her blocking average also ties for eight-best in the conference.
CAGE DIGS IT
Senior outside hitter Alexis Cage set a career high with 20 digs in the win over Murray State last Saturday. In doing so she almost doubled her season total as she had recorded 23 digs over SDU's first five matches. Cage's average of 2.32 digs per set last season was best on the squad among non-liberos. She is averaging 1.95 digs per set in 2016 to go along with a mark of 1.91 kills per set including a high of 10 kills vs. Michigan State.
FUZIE ON THE BLOCK
Senior Emma Fuzie set her SDSU career high with seven total blocks in the win over UC Davis. The next day she notched six blocks against Murray State. During last weekend's Oregon Classic, Fuzie averaged 1.50 blocks per set to up her season average to 1.14 per set. Her season average is tied for eighth-best in the Mountain West entering the week.
