SDSU Women's Soccer Weekly Release

Game Week Preview
San Diego State (0-2; 0-0 MW) at San Diego (1-2; 0-0 WCC)
Friday, Sept. 2 | 7 p.m. PT | TheW.tv | Torero Stadium | San Diego, California

Storylines
- San Diego State, still in search of its first victory of the season, will head west on Interstate 8 to face cross-town foe San Diego on Friday. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT at Torero Stadium and the contest will stream live on TheW.tv.

- The Aztecs, who had 10 days between their first and second games, are coming off a tough 3-0 road defeat to Long Beach State on Monday. The 49ers outshot SDSU, 9-6, with eight of LBSU's attempts occurring in the first half and three leading to goals.

- San Diego State was able to get more players onto the field on Monday compared to its season opener vs. UCLA. Eighteen Aztecs logged minutes against the Bruins, while 20 stepped onto the pitch vs. the 49ers. Gemma Craine (8 minutes) and Ariana Robles (14 minutes) were the two Aztecs who made their 2016 season debuts.

- Even with the 10-day layoff between games, San Diego State is still seeing which pieces fit with the large number of new faces it has on this year's roster. The game at Long Beach State marked the second consecutive outing in which three freshmen were in the Starting XI. Six of the nine reserves, meanwhile, were first-time Aztecs, including five true freshmen.

- SDSU put half of its shots on goal (3 of 6) at Long Beach State, which was an improvement over its season-opening effort of 25 percent (2 of 8). Milan Moses, Angela Mitchell and Zsuria Phare each had one shot on target with Moses leading the team with three shots overall. Victoria Barba also added an attempt.

- Barba and Moses have combined to take more than half of the Aztecs' shot attempts. Together, the two own nine (Barba - 5, Moses - 4) of San Diego State's 14 shots (64.3 percent). The other five shots come from five different players.

- SDSU, which had its five-game road winning streak dating back to last season stopped, will look to get back on the winning track against a USD team that is 1-2 on the year. The Aztecs are looking to prevent their first three-game losing skid since the 2006 campaign when they dropped the final four contests of the regular-season.

- The Aztecs will look to add a tally to the win column where they have generally experienced success, which is in road games. True road outings have been fairly kind to the Scarlet and Black as it has posted a 12-6 record (66.7 percent) since the start of the 2014 campaign. Reach back to the beginning of 2011 and the Aztecs are 27-13-2 on the road (66.7 percent).

- Even winning at a 66.7-percent clip in road games over the last six seasons, San Diego State heads to a venue where it has lost the last two times. In 2013, the Aztecs played a neutral-site contest at Torero Stadium and fell to USC, 4-1, before returning the USD campus in 2014 only to fall to the Toreros, 2-0.

- San Diego State and USD are playing each other for the fourth consecutive season, which is the second-longest streak in series history. The schools saw each other eight straight times to start the series with the last of the eight coming in the 1999 NCAA tournament.

- Overall, the Aztecs own a 9-5-1 series advantage over the Toreros and have won three of the last four get-togethers, but are just 4-5 at the Linda Vista campus. Two of the three victories have come at SDSU Sports Deck, including last season's 4-3 triumph. In that game, returners Hedda Regefalk, Aliyah Utush and Milan Moses tallied one goal apiece with Utush adding two assists.

- More on last year's meeting with USD: The game was scoreless at halftime and by the 59th minute, the Aztecs were ahead, 3-0... Utush's goal in the 59th minute led to a USD goal in the 61st and was followed by Moses goal in the 63rd... The Toreros made things interesting with an 82nd-minute score and a penalty kick in the 86th before the Aztecs emerged victorious.

- San Diego State will return to the normal Friday-Sunday game schedule next week when its road trip continues. Instead of going across town, the Aztecs will go across the country to face defending national champion Penn State (Sept. 9) and Cornell (Sept. 11). The Nittany Lions are 1-1-1, while the Big Red are 1-0 heading into this week's action.

- After next week's road trip, the Aztecs will return to SDSU Sports Deck for a quartet of games. San Diego State will finish its non-conference schedule vs. Weber State (Sept. 15) and Texas Tech (Sept. 18), before opening Mountain West action vs. Air Force (Sept. 23) and Colorado College (Sept. 25).
