COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The San Diego State women's cross country team has been picked to finish 10th in the Mountain West preseason poll, as voted on by the league’s coaches, the conference announced today.
San Diego State collected 20 points in the poll, one ahead of 11th-ranked UNLV (19). New Mexico, which has captured the eight most recent MW titles, was selected to repeat as the conference champion with 99 points and nine first place votes. Boise State, this year’s MW Tournament host, garnered two first place votes and trails the Lobos in the No. 2 spot with 92 points.
Colorado State (79), Air Force (67) and Wyoming (63) round out the top five. Utah State (56) was selected at No. 6 and Nevada (53) was chosen to finish No. 7, while San José State (30) and Fresno State (27) were forecasted to end the year eighth and ninth, respectively.
The Aztecs open the season on Sept. 3 with the Mark Covert Classic in Brea, Calif., hosted by Cal State Fullerton. San Diego State’s schedule features six regular season meets, five of which are in Southern California. The Mountain West Championships will be held on Oct. 28 in Boise, Idaho.
