RIO DE JANEIRO -

RESULTS

San Diego State track and field alumna Whitney Ashley competed in the discus throw at the Rio Olympics Monday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Battling rainy and slippery conditions, Ashley was unable to successfully land a qualifying mark on her three attempts.

Ashley, who won a 2012 NCAA title in the event while with the Aztecs, came into the Olympics ranked in a tie for 11th in the world with a mark of 212 feet, 0 inches (64.62 meters). That would have been the second-best mark in the "Group A" qualification flight tonight and would have moved her onto Tuesday's final.

Ashley was a four-time USTFCCCA All-American and a five-time MW champion while at SDSU from 2011-12.

Former San Diego State teammate Shanieka Thomas tied for 13th in the triple jump on Saturday.
