NEW ORLEANS - San Diego State was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team selection on Thursday. Led by Kassidy Ellis, Alexa Evans and Ellison Grove, the Aztecs finished the 2016 campaign with a 3.07 cumulative GPA.
Ellis, Evans and Grove garnered USTFCCCA All-Academic individual accolades, logging a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25, and either finishing among the top 96 in an individual event during the indoor season or participating in the outdoor NCAA Regional competition.
Heading into the fall, Ellis owns a 3.75 GPA in speech language and hearing sciences, while Evans has a 3.46 GPA in public administration. Grove, a CoSIDA Academic All-District 8 Team selection in May, has compiled a 4.00 GPA in international security and conflict resolution.
Evans (discus throw) and Grove (800 meters) each competed at the NCAA West Prelims with Evans qualifying for the NCAA Championships and eventually taking ninth in the event. Ellis made the team with a top-96 effort in the pentathlon.
SDSU finished in a 20th-place tie with Michigan at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the program's fourth top-25 effort over the last five seasons.
