SAN DIEGO – San Diego State women's basketball head coach Stacie Terry will compete for her alma mater El Capitan High School in the fourth annual "Live4Gen" charity game on Saturday, June 11, at Mount Miguel High in Spring Valley, Calif.
Terry and her fellow El Capitan alumnae will square off against their counterparts from Mount Miguel, beginning at 1 p.m. PT, followed by a similar men's game at 2:30. Admission is $5, with all proceeds benefitting the Live4Gen non-profit organization to raise breast cancer awareness.
The Live4Gen game was established as a memorial to Genevieve Costello, a 2005 Mount Miguel graduate who succumbed to the disease in May 2013.
Costello garnered first-team all-Grossmont South league accolades all four years at Mount Miguel, earning most valuable player honors following her senior campaign in 2004-05. During her prep career, Costello helped the Matadors to four straight CIF San Diego Section titles, with her squad posting a combined record of 116-18, including a 38-0 mark in conference. She later played four seasons at UC Davis, averaging 7.5 points in 87 games overall.
Terry, a 1994 alumna of El Capitan, held the Vaqueros' scoring record for three years following her graduation and was enshrined into the school's athletic hall of fame in 2008. She enjoyed a standout collegiate career at the University of Texas at Arlington, where she received first-team all-Southland Conference recognition after leading the Mavericks in scoring with 17.4 points per game as a senior in 1997-98.
Terry is just one of 17 players in UTA history to surpass the 1,000-point plateau, while her .335 career three-point field goal percentage remains a school and conference record.
In addition to five newcomers, San Diego State returns nine letterwinners and three starters from last season's squad, including rising junior McKynzie Fort (Fontana, Calif.), who received all- Mountain West honorable mention and earned a spot on the league's all-defensive team. The Aztecs open their 2016-17 campaign in November.
