STANFORD, Calif. -- The 21st-ranked San Diego State women's golf team slipped two places into the 12th position on Friday after shooting a collective 13-over-par 297 during the second round of the 2016 NCAA Stanford Regional at a rain-swept Stanford Golf Course. The Aztecs shaved two strokes off their combined score from the previous day, but still lost ground in the standings, finishing with a 36-hole total of 28-over 596 on the par-71, 6,269-yard layout.

Despite the stumble, SDSU remains just five shots in back of sixth-place North Carolina (+23), as the top six teams and three highest placing individuals not on one of those squad advance to the NCAA championship series, slated for May 20-25 in Eugene, Ore.

However, the Aztecs find themselves looking up at five other schools in the chase for the coveted sixth spot, with three strokes separating the cluster of Michigan State (+24), Pepperdine (+25), Wake Forest (+26), UNLV (+27) and Colorado (+27).

For the second straight day, the SDSU troika of senior Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden), junior Sirene Blair (South Jordan, Utah) and sophomore Mila Chaves (Asuncion, Paraguay) posted matching scores after each carded a 73. The three golfers also recorded the identical number of birdies (2) and bogeys (4) during their respective rounds, climbing 12 places on the individual leaderboard into a tie for 24th at 5-over 147.

Starting from the 10th tee, Henrikson finally ended her birdie drought on the back with a successful conversion on the par-4, 423-yard No. 2, before adding another circle on her scorecard at the par-5, 490-yard seventh.

Blair, meanwhile, was 1-under for the day after notching eight pars and a birdie on the front; however, four bogeys down the stretch short-circuited her momentum.

Similarly, Chaves was unable to pull off a strong finish, closing with two straight bogeys on the eighth and ninth greens following a birdie at No. 7.

Sophomore Georgia Lacey (Del Mar, Calif.) figured in the Aztecs' team total as well on Friday after posting a 78. Despite a dearth of birdies, the Torrey Pines High product was just 1-over for the round through nine holes, offsetting a bogey at No. 14 with eight pars. However, Lacey was undone by a plague of four bogeys and double on the back, tumbling 10 places into tie for 74th at 13-over 155.

SDSU was also represented by fellow classmate Haleigh Krause (Eugene, Ore.), who dropped into the 81st position at 16-over 158 on heels of a final-round 80. After making a birdie on No. 14 followed by three straight pars, Krause struggled the rest of the day, logging six bogeys on her final 10 holes.

Stanford (+1) shot a 4-under 280 on its home course Friday to grab a two-stroke lead over USC (+3), while Virginia (+16) and Ohio State (+16) landed in the third position with 18 holes to play. The Buckeyes, who shared the 10th spot with SDSU entering the day, made the biggest gain of the second round, vaulting seven places in the standing after logging a 285.

Stanford's Mariah Stackhouse (-3) shares the individual lead with Alana Uriell of Arkansas, who fired a tournament-low 67, while Cardinal teammate Casey Danielson is tied for third with USC's Tiffany Chan at 2-under.

The Stanford Regional concludes on Saturday when SDSU tees off with UNLV and Colorado for the final round, starting at 7:30 a.m. PT on hole No. 10.
