SAN DIEGO - San Diego State men's basketball assistant coach Justin Hutson has been identified as one of the top 14 rising men's and women's hoops coaches in America and will participate in Advocates of Athletic Equity's (AAE) annual "Achieving Coaching Excellence" (ACE) Professional Development Program. The program will take place June 6-9.
Of the 14 coaches selected, Hutson, who is entering his ninth season at SDSU, is one of seven assistants from the men's basketball side slated to attend and the group will be joined by seven women's basketball assistant coaches.
The ACE program draws upon AAE's partnerships with individuals and organizations that share and support AAE's mission to advocate for, and promote ethnic coaches for position of leadership at all levels of sport. This year's professional development program is being co-administered by the National Association for Coaching Equity and Development (NAFCED). Designed for ethnic minority coaches identified as potential head coaching candidates within the next two to three years, ACE is centered around enhancing skill sets on and off the court.
Scheduled to present at the Indianapolis, Indiana workshop are Memphis men's basketball head coach Tubby Smith, head coach Tom Crean of Indiana men's hoops and Muffet McGraw, women's basketball head coach at Notre Dame, along with collegiate athletic directors and various athletic search firms.
