SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore Ellison Grove (Catharpin, Va.) has been named to the 2015-16 Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Academic All-District Team, the College Sports Information of America (CoSIDA) announced today. A middle-distance specialist, Grove is on the District 8 Team.
The Academic All-District teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada, and recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-American Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected in June.
Grove, an international security and conflict resolution major, is one of just three student-athletes with a perfect 4.00 GPA on the 14-member District 8 team. Grove has the six-fastest times for the Aztecs this year in the 800 meters and the two-fastest 1,500-meter times. Her 800 best of 2 minutes, 7.74 seconds set at the Payton Jordan Invitational on May 1 is the sixth fastest in program history. Grove was third in the 800 at the MW Championships two weeks ago with a time of 2:07.81.
Grove runs in the 800 at the NCAA West Prelims at 8:10 p.m. CT (6:10 p.m. PT) tonight in Lawrence, Kan. Seeded 38th out of the 48 qualifiers in the event, Grove will have to finish in the top three of her heat (heat 5) or run one of the next six-fastest times to qualify for Friday's quarterfinals.
