REVISED SCHEDULE

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Due to inclement weather in the Lawrence, Kan., area, the first day of the NCAA Track and Field West Prelims on Thursday has been suspended. A revised schedule is listed above.

San Diego State originally had runners competing in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles, the 100 and the 800 today, starting at 4:30 p.m. CT (2:30 p.m. PT). A lightning delay originally suspended competition at 2:39 p.m. CT (12:39 p.m. PT) and again at 3:54 p.m. CT (1:54 p.m. PT). At 6:56 p.m. CT (4:56 p.m. PT) the decision was made to suspend the first day of the meet.

According to Wunderground.com, there is an active tornado watch, flash flood warning and a flash flood watch in the Lawrence area. The Wunderground website reads, "A severe weather outbreak, including tornadic supercells, is possible Thursday, following two days of destructive tornadoes in the Plains states. On Thursday, a severe weather outbreak may erupt in the central and southern Plains from Nebraska and Iowa into Kansas, eastern Colorado, western Missouri, Oklahoma, west-central and north Texas."

The Aztecs had 13 athletes qualify for the meet, their most since the NCAA split into two regions in 2010. The top-12 finishers in each event of the west region will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., from June 8-11.

SDSU will now start its competition at 9:20 a.m. CT (7:20 a.m. CT) Friday with the 100, and will also be in action at 11 a.m. CT (9 a.m. PT) with the 800, 11:50 a.m. CT (9:50 a.m. PT) with the 400 hurdles, 2:30 p.m. CT (12:30 p.m. PT) with the discus throw and 5:30 p.m. CT (3:30 p.m. PT) with the pole vault.

Saturday will begin at 9:30 a.m. CT (7:30 a.m. PT) with the shot put, followed at 10 a.m. CT (8 a.m. PT) with the 4x100 relay, 11:30 a.m. CT (9:30 a.m. PT) with the 100 hurdles, and 12:30 p.m. CT (10:30 a.m. PT) with the 200 and triple jump.

NOTE: All running events will be contested as a quarterfinal. Advancement will be:

  • In the 100, 200, 400, 800, 100 hurdles, 400 hurdles and steeplechase, the heat winner and the next 6 fastest times advance
  • In the 1,500, the top 2 plus the next four fastest times advance
  • All other running events advance as printed on the original heat sheets
  • Both the men's and women's pole vault as well as the men's and women's high jump will be contested indoors at Anschutz Sports Pavilion
