EUGENE, Ore. – Recent San Diego State women's golf graduate Emma Henrikson (Malmö, Sweden) capped off her stellar collegiate career on Tuesday, earning honorable mention All-America recognition by the Women's Golf Coaches Association of America (WGCA). With her accolade, Henrikson becomes the first player in program history to receive All-America distinction at any level.
"Emma had an unbelievable year," said Aztec head coach Leslie Spalding. "She started so well and was very dominant and aggressive in her play. I was very proud to coach her over the last four seasons and I am looking forward to watch her play professionally. She has been our No. 1 player every year, but has worked extremely hard, improving her scoring average by nearly four strokes since her arrival."
Henrikson, who was named Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Year following the conference championships on April 20, finished the year with a 71.96 scoring average in 27 rounds, which ranked seventh in the nation according to Golfstat. She also became the just the second SDSU player, along with Christine Wong, to collect all-MW honors in four consecutive years after leading the Scarlet and Black with 11 rounds below par, including nine in the 60s.
During the 2015-16 campaign, Henrikson recorded six top-10 individual placements, highlighted by two medal-winning performances at the Golfweek Conference Challenge last fall and the Westbrook Spring Invitational in February. In addition, the native Swede notched a pair of third-place finishes at the Branch Law Firm Invitational during the fall schedule and the Bruin Wave Invitational earlier this spring.
For her efforts, Henrikson received MW Women's Golfer of the Month recognition in September to go along with conference player of the week accolades on March 2.
As a collegian, Henrikson compiled 24 top-20 finishes, 13 top-10 placements and 10 top-fives. On April 11, she was named San Diego State's female student-athlete of the year during the Aztec athletic department's 22nd annual scholar-athlete banquet.
Among the criteria used to determine WGCA All-America teams include head-to-head competition, comparison with common opponents, scoring average, individual finishes in regular-season tournaments and strength of schedule.
San Diego State completed another successful season in 2015-16, posting two tournament victories and a runner-up finish at the MW Championship en route to its sixth NCAA regional appearance in the last seven years. The Aztecs climbed as high as No. 13 in the Golfweek national rankings last fall.
