SAN DIEGO - San Diego State senior Arthur Flores (Denver) has been named to the 2016 Rimington Trophy Spring Watch List, the Rimington Trophy Committee announced today. The award goes out to the most outstanding center in FBS play.
Flores started all 14 games at center for the Aztecs last season, helping SDSU to an 11-3 record, a Mountain West title and a 42-7 victory over Cincinnati in the Hawai'i Bowl. Flores blocked for a pair of 1,000-yard rushers in Donnel Pumphrey (1,653 yards) and Chase Price (1,008), marking the first time in school history that San Diego State had multiple 1,000-yard rushers. Additionally, the Aztecs allowed only 20 sacks on the season, ranking in a tie for 31st in the nation sacks allowed per game (1.43).
Flores is one of five from the MW on the spring list.
Since its inception, the Rimington Trophy has raised over $2.6 million for the cystic fibrosis community. The award is overseen by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, which is committed to finding a cure for cystic fibrosis and has raised over $120 million for the fight against cystic fibrosis.
Dave Rimington, the award's namesake, was a consensus first-team All-America center at Nebraska in 1981 and 1982, during which time he became the John Outland Trophy's only double winner as the nation's finest college interior lineman.
SDSU's 11 wins last year tied a school record, while its 10-game winning streak to close the season is the second-longest active FBS streak heading into 2016.
