COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A total of 14 San Diego State track and field athletes have been named to the all-Mountain West team, as announced Monday by the league office. The all-MW selections, which are awarded to the top-three finishers in each event, are the Aztecs' most in the history of the conference.
Five SDSU athletes earned all-MW accolades in multiple events, including Simone Glenn (200, 4x100, 4x400) and Ashley Henderson (100, 200, 4x100) in three events apiece.
Micha Auzenne (100 hurdles, 4x100), Madison Gipson (400 hurdles, 4x400) and Tyra Lea (400, 4x100) also landed on the all-MW team in multiple events.
Other all-conference picks went to Je'Neal Ainsworth in the triple jump, Rachel Alesi in the shot put, Marissa Berry and Bonnie Draxler in the pole vault, Kassidy Ellis in the heptathlon, Alexa Evans in the discus throw, Ellison Grove in the 800, Lakin Hatcher in the 4x400 and Starylynn Singleton in the 4x100.
The 14 all-league honorees helped San Diego State finish second at the four-day meet, highlighted by four individual victories and a relay win.
Henderson led the way after winning the 100, 200 and anchoring the victorious 4x100 team. For her efforts, she was named the Women's Outstanding Performer of the Meet. Henderson first anchored the 4x100 team to a time of 44.30 seconds, the second-fastest time in school history and more than a second ahead of Fresno State (45.72). She then breezed to a win in the 100 n a time of 11.10, which would have been a school record (11.20 by Tonette Dyer in 2004), but the wind was just over the 2.0 mph limit at 2.3 mph.
Henderson also blew away the field in the 200 final with a wind-aided time of 22.44 seconds, which is the third-fastest time in the nation this year (regardless of wind) and 1.01 seconds faster than the runner-up.
Auzenne, meanwhile, won the 100 hurdles in a wind-aided time of 13.18 and Gipson took down the 400 hurdles in two-second PR of 58.01, the fourth-fastest time in school history.
The NCAA West Regional (preliminaries in Lawrence, Kan.) field is expected to be released later this week.
