Aztecs Head to New Mexico in Final Regular Season Road Trip
The San Diego State softball team travels to Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend to take on New Mexico in its final road series of the season. The Aztecs (26-20, 8-10 MW), who are coming off back-to-back series wins, will meet the Lobos (22-21 entering Wednesday's game vs. New Mexico State, 7-10 MW) at 5 p.m. MT Friday, 1 p.m. MT Saturday and noon MT Sunday. All three games will be broadcast on the Mountain West Network.
SDSU is hitting .293 as a team with 23 home runs, 34 stolen bases and 214 runs in 46 games (4.65 runs per game). Sophomore Jenavee Peres (Garden Grove, Calif.) continues to lead San Diego State in multiple offensive categories, despite missing 19 of the team's 46 games with injuries, including batting average (.451), on-base percentage (.535), slugging percentage (.915), runs (26, tied) and home runs (9). Sophomore Zaria Meshack (Vallejo, Calif.) is hitting .374 with 26 runs and a team-high 13 stolen bases, while senior Samantha Camello (Temecula, Calif.) (.335, 26 R, 20 RBI, 11 2B) and freshman Molly Sturdivant (Santa Ana, Calif.) (.310, 6 HR, 27 RBI) are also hitting over .300 for the Aztecs.
SDSU has used a balanced pitching staff so far, combining for a 3.87 team ERA from freshman Julie McDonald (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) (2-1, 3.60 ERA, 44.2 IP), junior Erica Romero (Corona, Calif.) (12-8, 3.71 ERA, 126.1 IP), sophomore Alex Formby (Orange, Calif.) (10-9, 4.01 ERA, 94.1 IP) and junior Ashley Ercolano (Poway, Calif./Poway HS) (2-2, 4.38 ERA, 38.1 IP).
Formby is coming off a weekend where she went 1-1 with a 2.03 ERA and a save in San Diego State's 2-1 series victory over Utah State en route to being named the MW Pitcher of the Week.
