SAN DIEGO, Calif. - With spring team practice in full swing, the San Diego State volleyball program has announced its participation in three spring tournaments highlighted by a one-day tournament in Peterson Gym in mid-April.
After playing in Arizona last weekend, the Aztecs will continue out-of-season play with a tournament at the University of San Diego scheduled for Saturday, April 9.
San Diego State will then host its own event on Saturday, April 16.
San Diego State will wrap up its spring tourney schedule with a one-day tournament hosted by Loyola Marymount on Saturday, April 30.
The Aztecs return six players who started a majority of the team's matches in 2015 along with a pair of liberos. Two of those starters earned all-Mountain West honors last season including middle blockers Deja Harris (2.30 kps, 1.04 bps) and Baylee Little (2.29 kps). In addition, outside hitter Alexandra Psoma (2.27 kps) also averaged over two kills per set as a freshman in 2015.
Other returning starters include middle blocker Emma Fuzie and outside hitter Alexis Cage along with setter Hailey Jones. Although Jones started most of SDSU's contests in 2015, she and freshman Lauren Utchen shared playing time and ended the season averaging 11.19 assists per set between them.
On the defensive side, Devyn Pritchard and Alexa Saba both saw action in the role of libero and averaged 3.27 and 2.49 digs per set respectively. Also back is defensive specialist Danielle Bolden, who led the team in service aces and also averaged 1.36 kills per set.
The Aztecs also have four redshirts returning who will see playing time during SDSU's slate of tourneys. That foursome includes freshmen Alex Harris, Alyssa Mathis and Bailey Osborn along with sophomore Jordan Conole.
Schedules for the three spring volleyball tournaments in which the Aztecs will compete will be posted as they become available.
